showing contents beside the category

hi, I'm working on a webpage. In my webpages, I have some categories, and under each categories, it has small categoreis as well. What I want to do is, when I click on the category, it shows the small categories under it, and contents of the small categories beside it.

Can anyone one lend me a hand? Thanks a lot!
