Seriously, try a CMS like Joomla (http://joomla.org) to get a decent portal-type application for free.
Mhtml 02-27-2006, 02:44 AM lol, geez.. I almost thought this was going to be a good project.
NancyJ 02-27-2006, 07:44 AM One thing about Joomla is google wont index your pages.
JamieR 02-27-2006, 10:16 AM Ahhhh...good luck, I reckon something in the reigon of £1,000 - £3,000 would be suitable, depending on who it is...

errr (http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&lr=&q=site%3Ajoomla.org&btnG=Search), what (http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&lr=&q=site%3Agigcalendar.net&btnG=Search)?
Not that I'm a big fan of Mambo/Joomla—the markup is dreadful, the hierarchy is contraining to work with and I hate portal sites in general. But Google will index it just like any other dynamically generated site.
NancyJ 02-27-2006, 04:41 PM Those are only homepages - it doesnt index the content - Google doesnt index any page that uses id in the querystring - and thats what Joomla/Mambo use for its dynamic content.

Do not use "&id=" as a parameter in your URLs, as we do not include these pages in our index.

Not every Joomla page uses "id" in the URL, and besides, you're not tied to using "messy" URLs—there's a SEO friendly URL option.
Again, I'm not a huge fan of Joomla, but I've been forced to use it a bunch and I've never had an issue with content indexing in Google.
Mhtml 03-01-2006, 01:57 AM Still that's pretty interesting, I Never knew google had that policy. Guess I have some reading to do.
Pennimus 03-01-2006, 12:54 PM Sorry Nancy, no offence but that's absolute rubbish. There are countless pages with id as a query string parameter indexed by Google.
If you read the guidelines closely it specifies that it doesn't index pages with &id, and this refers to pages with session ids which aren't indexed for obvious reasons.
Normal dynamically generate pages with id= signifiying a change of content are perfectly fine.
