what is the best way to prevent CD from being scratched?

Rip it to an image when you first use it and never use the actual CD again, just use the image or a copy you burn from that image.

Burning it takes up space from my hard disk. :(

if you rip and then burn the CD you can ensure the original wont get scratched + you can remove the file from your HD. You can get CD's for as low as £10 per 100 pack, and probably even lower if you look around, so thats literally £0.10 per CD which is well worth it to protect your CD's.

lol, good one. MY advice would be use a case. I have a case (leather made from Dynasound and it hold about a 100 CD's.
