I've been up all damn night working on about 5 projects at once, and I just had this idea in the back of my head the whole time for a new design for my website which has been on the back burner for so so long.

www.mithoric.com/new.php

I know it doesn't validate, I threw it together really quickly and once I fix the few css errors that ie is throwing I will make a move on tidying up the markup to xhtml standards.

Usually, I don't go for such a graphic heavy site.. I like to use barely any graphics, but I thought I might try completely separating design from content and I think I've done alright for an hour's work.

I'm specifically interested in the load times for people, I will probably reduce the image sizes somewhat but for now they're quite large .png's.

In FF1.5.0.1 there is about a 200px gap on the right side causing H-Scrollbar. Your top menu is causing this gap. When you use relative positioning the div still takes up the space that it would have if it wasn't moved. I like the "pixel" look of the graphics.

It doesn't occur in IE though.

Damn you people on lower resolutions! I'm 1680x1050 widescreen. Anyhow, fixed.

I'm on 1600 x 1200, but on a Mac OSX at the moment, and the site definitely doesn't work in IE, and I've a feelin it doesn't in Safari from what it looks like.

Will check it later on when I jump to my pc. IE shows a blue background with text only. In safari, there seems to be no backing above the background that you have set. Design-wise it is okay, the background repeats aren't a smooth transition tho I suppose those on lower resolutions won't even realise that. Kinda think that the text would be better if it were a very light shade of blue or white instead of orange.

Just had a look, it looks fine on firefox (win), not on Opera 8.52 (Win), Safari or IE for osx.

Thanks xander, I'm about to start on the browser issues later today. Don't know what to think about mac though, don't have one, don't know who has one so looks like I'll have to go on theory for that. Opera and IE should quiet down pretty easy though.

[edit:] I made some modifications to fix the problems in ie. Can people confirm this?

I think its a nice looking design. Nice graphics.

On 800x600 there is a horizontal scrollbar i would say about 20-50 pixels dont fit on screen. I use this resolution just because I dont have the luxury of going out and buying a new video card and a new big monitor. my resolution goes up to 1024 but my monitor is too small for that, and I would rather spend my money on other things when this res. works just fine and alot of sites out there still conform to 800x600. So anyway, take it for what its worth.

The boxes on the right seem to "go out" of the container.

I love it. Great job. I personally would make the message field of the shoutbox bigger. Great colors and layout.

Nice.

In Opera you have a 10px or so top margin that makes the body not quite line up with the background. Easily fixed though.

Also you have an error re: absinth:

This particular beverage isn't the be all and end all...

For macho willy waving value, try Stroh...

But not if you have to work the next day ;)

It'll be flexible soon, it's fixed because I'm too lazy to make the graphics at the moment.

Alrighty, looks like I've got something else to try!
