PHP on XPHomeooiyh 02-16-2006, 02:49 AM Is it possible to install PHP on XPHome? fci 02-16-2006, 02:57 AM yes, use xampp: http://www.apachefriends.org/ ooiyh 02-16-2006, 03:16 AM I came across this... Is it the same as xampp or is it better? http://www.wampserver.com/en/index.php fci 02-16-2006, 03:19 AM I'd go with whatever suits your fancy. wamp appears to be php5 only but most servers still run php4 (unfortunately). xampp can do php4 or php5 .. GO ILLINI 02-16-2006, 04:08 AM xampp is great. I use it and love it. ooiyh 02-16-2006, 07:12 AM Yeah..I justed installed it. Wow.. it is really great. ooiyh 02-16-2006, 07:18 AM Now I am setting up phpBB on xampp. I am able to surf phpBB pages through the localhost. But there is this page that ask me to setup the database through a form on install.php, but the response was that it cannot connect to the database. Is it something to do with xampp? Masterslave 02-16-2006, 08:10 AM Correct me if I'm wrong but I thought it isn't possible to install a webserver on XP home, you will need XP pro for this. Rich Pedley 02-16-2006, 09:46 AM many of us have installed web servers on XP Home. I personally use easyphp. However mine is for local testing and development only, and isn't open to the world. mic2100 02-16-2006, 10:59 AM On of the best one i found was appserv http://www.appservnetwork.com degsy 02-16-2006, 02:06 PM Correct me if I'm wrong but I thought it isn't possible to install a webserver on XP home, you will need XP pro for this. What that refers to is that XP Home doesn't come shipped with IIS. degsy 02-16-2006, 02:07 PM Now I am setting up phpBB on xampp. I am able to surf phpBB pages through the localhost. Have you created a database with phpMyAdmin? Have you told phpBB the details of this database? username, password and database name. marek_mar 02-16-2006, 05:31 PM You could also do it yourself with a tutorial (http://a51.neostrada.pl). |
