I've been using Google Groups (http://groups.google.com/) a lot; not all groups, but a big part anyway; no binaries.

google is so slow though, you really need a real news server for newsgroups in my opinion... unless you're not bothered by having it updated only like twice a day....

Yeah, but he asked for a web based interface...
In fact, Google took over the old Deja site a couple of years ago.
