I thought var were global as default

Hi All,

I have a ajax app for a cms that I use for clients to update there flash environment and have used it several times. The problem is that I have a new client that is on unix server and javascript doesn't seem to initiate var that are set at initiation of script. hence the variables that are set at beginig on javascript are coming up as undefined in later functions. I do not iundertsand this as this script has worked many times before Does anyone have any pointers as to what the problem might be.

This is to do with global and local variables.

Outside of a function both
var x = 0
and
x = 0
result in a global variable named x whose value is 0

But within a function var becomes important.
function whatever() {
var y = 0 // the variable y is local to that function
y = 0 // sets a global variable named y

This should cover your problem.
