could somoen suggest a free, compiling, easy (not C++, this has to be quick) language? something like VB maybe but absolutly free (ie freeware or under gnu gpl)

I assume that you mean a compiled language that is a RAD,so I would suggest Kylix.

Lol.Officially an Assembler is used for Assembly (not a compiler).
Java? C# (.NET Framework is free, and comes with a C# compiler)? Why not C++?
If you are willing to use scripting languages, you can have some great stuff, like Ruby and Python for example. If you were a masochist who likes bad languages, Perl is always a choice too.

I wouldn't wish Assembly language on anyone. My university though thought it was a good idea to torture us with a semester of it.

spookster, i said easy! assembly is has the most god awefulll learning curve (or cliff) i have ever seen! i dont get it. at all. thanks for the suggestion anyways. isnt kylix for linux? i forgot to say im on windows :(

Delphi is a modern (OO,GUI etc.) version of Pascal.Kylix is just the Linux/GNU version of Delphi.
