Hi,
Is it possible to detect that the referrer was AIM or some other IM program?
It doesn't seem to work.

Nope. If anything was done, it'd have to be done it the IM program itself, and that'd have to be consistant throughout programs (think of how many IM programs there are that support AIM). It's very, very, very unlikely to happen.
