confirm email fields

I have the form validation thing down, but for some reason I can't seem to get a validate for 2 identical fields as in re-entering your email address to confirm you didn't drop a typo in there. I would like to do this without loading an external .js by the way...Can anyone kick some ideas my way??

if (f.email.value != f.emailConfirm.value){
alert("Email address must be the same.");
return false;
}
where "f" is the form reference and "email" and "emailConfirm" are the email field names.
