How would you FIRST start a webhosting company?
What equippments would you require?

Erm, well obviously you'd need server(s) to store the files on, and the web server software - most probably Apache as it's free and the most popular.
I'm not sure how you'd actually monitor say bandwidth though, or let them upload files to their 'own' space etc. Guess I'd like to find that out too!
And you might want to check with your ISP before doing anything - some can be fussy with things like that.

What I mean is; Create a COMPANY that lets other people pick out a hosting plan, and start paying. >_> enough info? :(

That's what I meant too... you asked what equipment you'd need. And for the rest I said I wasn't quite sure.

Hi everybody,
nice question to have here
however, putting a server with a software and connect it to the internet is not the whole story. For example, you need to put redundant servers to provide high reliablility for your customers. You don't want your customers to contact you everyday to tell you that the server is down and the site is not opening.
In summary you need in minimum the following:
1. Two redundant high speed connections to the world wide web and the Internet.
2. RAID system to store the websites and databases.
3. A number of servers and the more number of powerful servers the better performance.
4. Backbone router(s) and powerfull switches.
5. The cost is high but if you succeed, it will be covered fast.
I hope I am helping here

How much equipment you need and what type depends on how many people you want to be able to handle and with what kind of requirements per user. e.g. disk space, available bandwidth, ammount of transfer, etc.

For starting out I would reccomend getting a dedicated server. This means that only you use the server and can do what you like. Many companies will offer a standard hosting type setup. This is what I use at the moment, however my use is primarily for my own stuff not other peoples (although I do offer this).
This will enable you to set up an identity and find out if you can actually sell your packages. From there you could expand to a server cluster, and if you get big enough, consider buying a data center and hiring employees etc.
