View Full Version : Joining Server hard drives?

I want to extend the hard drive space on my server by adding it on from the 100 gigabytes I have from a usb hard drive. The computer (xp pro sp2) detects it as a hard drive and not in the 'removable hardware' section. I need to join them to make them one disc (virtually) and so the 80 gig internal drive add the 100 gig which will show a local drive of 180 gigabytes.
has anyone done this before? Is their maybe some software which can do this?

In windows you can do it if you convert the two drives to dynamic drives, then you can use spanned volumes that would do what you want.

Im very happy to know that it's possible!!! But out of my lack of knowledge im sorry to say i have no idea wat dynamic drives are and spanned volumes. Thanx for any simple explanation! (i havent found any definitions else where)

Yeah it's possible alright...extending the partition of the hard disk onto another is fairly simple to do - I think Partition magic would do it, although I don't trust it.
Acronis Disk Director will most likely do it for you.

Here is a brief overview of what dynamic disks are: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dynamic_disk
