Hi everyone, bought an old p200 to use as a simple static web server

Anyway i want to make it look as old and broke as possible (not the insides tho!)(yes i am mad), just for an authentic hackers look.

Anyone got any pics of old servers or any ideas?

1)scratch the big "dell", "packard bell" or "compaq" sign on the front
2)whip your keys against the box a few times to get scratched up a bit
3) have a bunch of wires sticking out an open bay (just get any old wires)
4)try to get a bigggg switch on the front so it looks like a power consuming demon.
and thats only the outside
(im not responable for any harm done to your computer and these methods go completly untested, just ideas)

adios

I have a copy of that and it's obviously staged to me. You can see the terminal (not a computer) isn't hooked up to power or any network.

im actually considering scrapping the okld server plan and just throwing the contents of the pc into my old video recorder, ive got a spare 145watt micro atx power supply that would fit.

Hi,
I'd suggest not to use a case at all... Let the power block, motherboard and the rest be dislocated all around the room...
And put as many unneded wires as You can everywhere - You'll create a Web :) If You have some not working motherboards and other scrap and simulate electrical links between all this stuff, every computer engeneer will have nightamares after seeing all this :)

class idea!, itll run cooler as well in the open!

the problem with this (as well as leaving an open bay behind or something is that the cooling is completly sabotaged and that you might get tsomething overhea. never happend to me but ive read it a few places. and how you going to find the on switch underneath the whole lot!

That gives me another idea... a P200 probably will not get overheated, but You can place a big 300 W cooler in front of him... You'll just have to use nails sa that the motherboard stay in its place when You turn on the cooler :))

If you guys are thinking of going caseless, you need to check out:

http://www.g-news.ch/articles/nhp200nc/

This guy took his computer (without case) and encased it in PU foam!

if you take it out of the case, you're gonna have to start worrying about dust, big time. i recommend against the no-case idea.

Modify your IDE cables to run to the opposite sides of the room and have your CD on one side and Hd on the other!
