Hey guys, I would search but I am at school and I only have about 3 min. Anyways, I have a guy that needs his site at the top of Google etc. because he really needs to sell his plain. I found www.searchenginepromotion.biz and they say they can promote it but I was wondering if they are legit or if there is a better service. Money isn't really a problem. Thanks!

Erm, I would say no, if they stand by this comment on their homepage :

Submitting your web site consistently is the #1 way to get indexed by search engines.

Which is absolute rubbish! As a general rule, buying any kind of automated software is akin to flushing money down the pan.

But I assume it's too late now :(

If they guy is serious abouthe needs proper consultancy firstly to establish whether his goal is even feasible given his competition and current website, and then to lay down a detailed strategy for achieving it.

When you say plain, do you mean plane? And if so, and he's only got one plane, you might nudge him towards a more immediate advertising solution than search engine optimisation.

If money isn't really a problem I would go with Google Adwords. Only $5.00 to set up and within minutes of activating key words the site will be at the top of the 'Sponsored Links'.

I find even $1.00 bids will get it to the top, some topics might be cheaper or more expensive.

I have not already used the service, I just found it when I was trying to find information. He is trying to sell his Dehavilland Beaver Airplane (there are only about 10 that are actually for sale on Google in the first couple of pages). I don't think he has TOO much competition but he does have some. I will look into the $5 thing. Thanks!

Also, he has tried using Magazines etc. to sell his plane, but they didn't work so he really wants to use a website of his own. How do the companies or w/e get to the top of Google when u search for something? What do they do to get to the top?

Why not spend the money on a classified ad in an airplace trade magazine? Money better spent, IMO.

BTW, plz, I know there are other options and he has spent a lot of money trying them but now he wants to try this. All I need to know is how to get it to the top of a Google/Yahoo/AOL/etc. search or near the top. Thanks.

As I said, if this is his goal he'll need to employ a search engine optimisation consultant to assess his site, competition and lay out a proper plan of action for the future. There is no way anyone will be able to tell you in this thread, it's a vast topic.

I have to say though unless the site is going to continue to be used for a similar purpose after he has sold the plane, optimising for top natural rankings is a waste of time and money.

If he just wants to sell his plane, AdWords and/or Yahoo! Search Marketing is the correct way to go.

Feel free to PM me for more information on either approach.

Hundreds, if not thousands, of well-written pages containing ample and appropriate use of your search keywords
a large number of highly ranked pages linking to your pages
titles and headers that reflect your search keywords
well-written semantic markup

Or, like everyone else has already said, advertise. Google Adwords is probably the way to go if money is no object.

Select proper relevant keywords & make sure you put the most searched keywords in your title & headings.

High Page Rank Websites linking to your website will also boost your site's ranking.
