View Full Version : My PC is acting weird...

Apps won't minimize to my start bar. Services.msc won't allow me to open properties. And, a major issue for me, System Restore says that I should restart my computer and open it again (with the same popup). My router caused the internet to go down. But, for some reason, my PC is screwed up too although I got my internet working again. Any ideas? Apps that restore my computer would be nice as well.

It to me sounds like your computer is full of malware. Make sure you run a fully updated virus scan as well as spybot search and destroy as well as lavasoft adware. If your computer is still acting weird, then let me know and I'll advise you further.

BTW, what do you mean by "System Restore says that I should restart my computer and open it again?"

System restore says:

System Restore is not able to protect your computer. Please restart and open System restore again.
I have ZoneAlarm. Should I run that for virus scan or should I get AdAware?

I don't have any experience with Zonealarm's antivirus system. I recommend you download and install, as well as update and run a full scan of:
AVG anti virus
Lavasoft adware
Spybot Search and destroy
Also install all the updates for your computer if they aren't already installed.

iTunes won't load. It goes to the shortcut then closes and stops. I also can't copy and paste. And I ran Spybot and AdAware. Now I'm waiting for Zone Alarm (registered) to finish the virus and spyware check.

Think you might benefit from a reinstall :)

I'll try reinstalling it and get back to you. Does reinstalling iTunes remove my playlists?

Update: It said error 1607: Cannot Install scripting runtime.

Erm I don't think so because all the program setting and itunes music folder is kept when you uninstall I think. What I meant by reinstall however was reinstall your whole operating system and reformatting your disk - making sure you've backed up everything you want to keep.

I was about to say that my start bar is now a 4px bar. Reformatting? I've done that so many damn times with this computer. I'd like to play some games before I reformat but I can't see the damn system tray. And I have shared Documents too to put the programs in but now I can't.

Btw, I have an UBCD (Ultimate Boot CD) handy if you tell me what to do with it. I can't find my WinXP setup disc.

It almost looks like your current resolution setting is too big for your screen.

I tried making it smaller but its still the same (800 x 600). My current resolution is 1024 x 768.

Sure you can't just drag it up?

I tried resizing it. It also doesn't work. I upped my vertical scale on my monitor to see if that was it. It isn't. Windows media player also doesn't work.

dude, with all the errors you're describing, how could anything other than a full format/reinstall be in order?

when you get back on your feet, install firefox/zone alarm/AVG/Spybot/Adaware from a disk before even plugging in a cat5 cable.

then, lock down IE , set spybot to actively protect your system, and scan any and all files you download/run for viri... especially p2p downloads. set avg to run a full scan once a week, and make sure zonealarm is set to high or medium security.

Yeah, that's what I thought. I'll try to get a WinXP setup disc soon and get back to you guys.
