Wanted: Gentle Nudge

Hello,

I recently put a site together in a couple days due to a crazy deadline that was handed to me. Now, I develop on a Mac and so I use Safari for browsing (do you see it coming?). I got the site together and it looked good in Safari and acceptable in Fire Fox.

Later that weekend I was in front of a PC so I decided to check out the site. It looked like garbage. Complete crap.

I have spent far too much time looking for the right answers and I was hoping somebody here might be able to give me a nudge in the right direction.

You should validate (http://validator.w3.org) your code. You don't even put a > to close on your div tags. You have use i tags, and u tags everywhere. These aren't valid in XHTML Strict. Making your page valid might fix some problems.

Thanks for the suggestion. After running the page and its CSS through the validator I was able to locate the problem (the big one being div tag left open).

As far as the i and u tags go. I don't remember using u tags anywhere and a quick peek at this page (http://www.w3schools.com/tags/tag_font_style.asp) leads me to believe that i tags are okay in XHTML.

Of course, I could be missing something.

Yeah they are okay because you are using the transitional doctype its just that styling should be handled with CSS rather than html. If you were using XHTML Strict underline tags and i tags wouldn't be valid.
