I need to learn how to make a script that scans information (of my specification) off of websites. I think I need PHP, but perhaps I need a client-side language like javascript?

Please let me know which language is best suited for this task and (if you have time) a little about how this is usually accomplished. Thank you very much!

No, I only want to scan specific sites (I assume by spider you mean a script that goes across the web looking for info).

To be more clear, here's what I want to do: I want to make something that can scan my university's website, specifically the class schedule pages, and organize the info (class, time, professor, etc) into tables.

well, you CAN use a spider to search a specific site, that is how i made a search engine for my site only. But look around in the php snippits for a spider.

Oh okay, I'll check the snippets out. I just wanted to make it clear that I don't want to make some spambot or something :P
