ok, i have created a site using an image map, but there is only one problem. when you hover over a link the mouse does not change into a pointer like it should.

here is the code i am using for the links-

<area SHAPE="rect" COORDS="448,435,520,469" HREF="otherstuff.html"
TARGET="resource window" alt="">

incase it is another problem, here is the whole thing-

<!DOCTYPE HTML PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD HTML 4.01 Transitional//EN"
<meta http-equiv="Content-Type" content="text/html; charset=iso-8859-1">
<script language="JavaScript">
var message="";
function clickIE() {if (document.all) {(message);return false;}}
function clickNS(e) {if
(document.layers||(document.getElementById&&!document.all)) {
if (e.which==2||e.which==3) {(message);return false;}}}
if (document.layers)
<style type="text/css">
body {
background-color: #000000;
background-image: url('' );
table.blogbody {
/* this edits the other the place where the blog is */
border: 0px solid 000000;
border-width: 0px 0px 0px 0px;
TD,P,body {
COLOR: #000000;
FONT-FAMILY: verdana, tahoma, helvetica, sans-serif, arial;
line-height: 12pt;
FONT-SIZE: 10px;
text decoration:none;
table.left, td.mainleft, table.navigation, table.footer, table.search, #SearchBar1_pnlYouAreHere, .mainleft {
display: none;

#pnlEnabled table, #htmleditor, #lblTimeZone, #pnlEprops {
<table border="0">
<center><IMG SRC="sbbackround4.jpg"usemap="#4k" BORDER=1></center>
<map name="4k">
<area SHAPE="rect" COORDS="448,435,520,469" HREF="otherstuff.html"
TARGET="resource window" alt="">
<area SHAPE="rect" COORDS="586,440,617,460" HREF="next.html">
<area SHAPE="rect" COORDS="640,449,668,485" HREF="crew.html" TARGET="resource window" alt="">
<area SHAPE="rect" COORDS="683,490,712,515" HREF="media.html" TARGET="resource window" alt="">
<area SHAPE="rect" COORDS="730,535,762,580" HREF="contact.html" TARGET="resource window" alt="">
<div align="left">

<center>Sunday, December 25, 2005</center>

<table border="0" cellspacing="0" cellpadding="4" width="100%" class="blogbody">
<td width="5%"></td>
<td align="justify">
Happy holidays to everyone, from Strike Back BMX.<br>

thanks in advance.

Hard to help without an actual link so we can see the image.

You should be getting the hyperlink hand so the only thing I can really suggest is add style="cursor: hand;" within the <area> tags.

Edit, Remove the cursor: default; declaration in the CSS. Just noticed that.

hand is only supported by IE, you want style="cursor: pointer" removing cursor:default as Mark said should fix the problem. Then there will be no need to add a style to the areas.

Yup realised after I posted, in fact I think to comply with all browsers you should use cursor:pointer; cursor:hand - but as said, shouldn't be needed.
