changing the background color behind the bullets?

Do you know how I can make it so that the background goes under the bullet?

By default, bullets are placed outside the list items (sort of guessing here). If so, you have to use "list-style:inside;" on the ul in your css.

And maybe you have to adjust the margins and paddings for the ul and li's.
