removing tree element without refreshing the page

Hello
i have atree that is build in dhtml/js that i can expand the tree when i click on the father
i can show/hide the sons and so on ...
now my question is . is there any way to remove one of the sons OR remove one of the fathers with
all of his sons without refreshing the tree so the tree will keep its RIGHT shape after i removed the
sons/father. it does not update any database or external file only show it in the client .
i hope you got my point .
