Tabs how to use images on and drop down.

I have a newbie question...

How does one successfully do Image tabs similar to amazon.com i.e. Is there a good Freeware program for that or is there something I am way missing? also how would you make them menus i.e. they drop down.. ????

Well the image part is just like any other menu, you can use images for it if you like. Personally I think alistapart does a good job explaining how to get a simple drop down menu using a list and sprinkle of javascript for IE. http://www.alistapart.com/articles/dropdowns
