jagged edge effect in photoshop?

how do i get a jagged effect in photoshop (like the image attached below...)
i've been using arbit eraser brushes...its getting me the required effect, but its too time consuming. am sure there might be some plugin/filter to do this task....

was wondering if anyone here could help me with it. :(
