I know that you may hate me for this, but when I went to the site, it didn't really feel like anything. It was a case of 'oh - okay'. I don't know why, I will try to get back to you with that.

I find it strange... its making me feel strange now, and I am confused. I never just felt 'oh' before. hmmm....

This is the kind of thing I absolutely hate seeing on web sites:
Our site uses frames, java scripts and active-x applets and has been optimized for viewing with Microsoft Internet Explorer at a resolution of 1024x768.
Of course that was on a "Enter" page which is a poor way to introduce a web site anyway.

I wonder if that was the reason... :S

The www.the-optical-store.co.uk site looks nice, but it definitely needs more color (other than blue).

you are a white and blue person
i agree with webmarkart, needs more color. both the sites use the same color scheme?
and for some reason the long list with the same "sections" picture stuck out to me on http://www.the-optical-store.co.uk/
but i see "style>" on the top left of page while its loading
notepad forever :)

the-optical-store .... okay i guess, but i also think it's too blue-and-white. something about the graphics that makes it look archaic.
the other one's a bit better i guess.
in my opinion the problem with both of them is that they're painfully plain. they've both got boring monotony.... if u don't mind me saying so..

Well, I'm new-----and, I guess I shouldn't be tryin' t'get on the "you may hate me for this" list, THIS soon------BUT.......
JimboS: The second site wasn't so bad, at all------the "eye" watermark was especially cool!! I think, though, that EVERYTHING should be on the "opening page" (first page)......
things like "take a walk around", "click here to enter"-----and, the like-----drive me mad!! I would also suggest using the mouseover function for your menu items----vs. the "click here for menu"-----that's a pain in the butt!!
As for the FIRST URL you provided......
"Ahhhhh-----I see what they mean........."
Sorry......
Your button/icon thingies were cool/ORIGINAL......

On this page I noticed on the drop-down menus, the arrows stay white on mouse rollover, looks funny...maybe should change arrows to be same color as font on mouse rollover?
Otherwise site looks great to me, but what do I know...

Thanks all for the comments - I will take them on board and consider making a few changes.
I guess the blue and white stems from a feeling that it looks 'clean' but I quess that could also be thought of as plain.

Hi, again, JimboS!!
I took the liberty of throwin' this together, for ya:
http://www.angelfire.com/cantina/4funandentertainment/TheOpticalStore.html
It may be a little boring TOO, but I just wanted t'help!!
.....maybe "inspire" you (I know all-too-well, about "creativity block"); or, at least, give you another idea, or something. You, obviously, would want to rearrange things, or whatever, to include your button/icon thingies------it's just an idea I had, for ya!
NOT t'worry-----I won't keep it there------NOR, will I keep your graphic/logo!!
I keep that account to use as my HTML editor......
Let me know, and as soon as you get the code/have looked at it long enough/whatever, and I'll remove it!! (If you take the code, please REMOVE the counter-----I don't think it'll work outside of Angelfire, anyway!! You can get a GREAT one, at: wsabstract.com/cutpastejava.shtml)
Maybe everybody else, here, could take a gander and tell you their thoughts on that idea......

Jim: I spruced it up a little, last night......
http://www.angelfire.com/cantina/4funandentertainment/TheOpticalStore.html
It still may not be your "cup-o'-tea"-------just wanted t'help give ya an idea......
I was thinking you could add some nice hover colors on your links...a cute shade of orange like...#F58814 perhaps.
and...about http://www.wpsoptometrists.co.uk/
its actually nice. And if I were you, I'd make it nicer by making small images to pack into the top portion, I meant I'd make a rectangular title image...like a really stunning eye catching one...iffff I were that good at graphics that is :p

Optical Store feedback:
The loading homepage - I think the site could live without it.
Color scheme - Look into Colour blindness and which colours stand out more.
Font size - Make it bigger. people with bad eyes may be using the site
wpsoptemetrists feedback:
Frames - Yuk. Sorry, never been a a fan of frames

Site menu - Have the menu's change on mouse over - some site users may not know about that and might miss things.
Sorry that nothing is positive in there but you did ask.

Don't worry about sending negative comments or constructive critisism.
Positive comments are nice (and great for the ego) but they are usually only what I think as I must like the sites as I made them like that. However I am not the one they are aimed at so other peoples opinions are valueable.
Whether I take all of it on board depends.
