i'm pretty new with 'Photoshop', but a managed to make an animated gif with a transparent background. however, there is little white specs surrounding the image. any tips on removing them?, or maybe better software to use. the original picture for the animation was made in 'Picture It! Photo 2002'

here is an example of what i'm working on: http://specialist-x.com/mouseover.html it's animated OnMouseOver

When creating images for the web, it is best to create the image on a transparent layer and make the background layer a solid color. The background color should be close to (or equal to) the background color you will use on the web page.

The little white specks you are seeing come from blending the edges of the image with the background color you are using. When photoshop (or any other image software) creates the *.gif, it blends the edges of your image with the background color to make the edges appear smoother. This creates pixels around the image that are not the same color as the background. When you specify the transparency color when creating the gif, only those pixels that are exactly equal to the background color will be transparent. Any pixel that is part of the blend will be slightly different and will show up in the image.

If you create your image on a light background and then display it on a dark background, these shifted images will show up as a light fringe around the image.

If you create the image on a background that is closer to the background you will display the image on, the fringe will still be there, but you won't notice it.
