Etc, and use XLink and XPointer to build real references and links to forums, threads, replies, users, etc....

Server side XSLT transformations to support legacy browsers, raw XML to decent ones, etc. Might be an interesting summer project. :)

jcj - another vBulletin board I have visited restricts post editing
to with-in 5 minutes of the original post - I'm not sure how much
time is allowed here, or if there is a time limit anyway.

I'm just using the above to test whether posted codes are
recompiled by vBulletin with nasty spaces between certain words.

After signing up and creating a post, not even having a chance to get ANY replies, thank you for throwing everything away so I have to sign up all over again and rewrite a post again this time hoping I get it in the correct forum. So what are all the big improvements besides a long winded sign up? Is this the way that webmasters do it, throw away the entire site and start over from scratch just to “upgrade” something in it? It would have been better to lock out new posts and let the threads and replies have a chance and move over to the "new" format over time and have new posts to the new format only.

We tried moving things over, but it proved too daunting a task, especially since some of the files in the old forum are corrupt.

Now that I have reregistered and rewritten and reposted, it has been moved to an unbrowsed forum because of the several questions I asked one mentioned something I got from Dynamic Drive. This place LOOKED good at first, but my experiences so far does not support that first impression. Let’s hope this improves greatly SOON. I am just getting started with websites, coding, etc. so I have a question or two to start, but in a few months at most I will be the one with the answers for others if I am true to form. Well good luck, I must have come along at the wrong time.

Whoa!!! :eek: I was going to say: "i like the look of the new forum!", but that was before i was confronted with the post reply window. Oh well, i'll get used to it... :rolleyes:

Let me get back on that: the more i use it, the more great user-friendly stuff i see. I must say: this forum works great, once you get the hang of it and discover all the features. Way to go, people!

So far I haven't noticed a difference in speed - the other one was pretty fast, I think this is about the same (I'm always on a fast connection though, so I wouldn't notice)

The actual layout/colours/etc. looks awesome, a much needed improvement - the purple buttons clash with the green a little.. but, whatever. (Sorry, I've taken a few graphic design courses.. ;))

So far I like it - I love the Private Messaging feature, and the buddy lists/users online is a great feature!!!

I have to say I like the new look. The layout is cleaner with the seperation of the client side/server side categories and then the sub categories within. (I really like the preview option on the post)

I was wondering if you were going to create a sticky post on
"How to post questions"
that first timers could use. I still see a lot of questions from people that don't post a link or don't post their code and when they do post there code they don't use the vbCode [ code ] so it loses all fomatting.

(And have you noticed if you post JavaScript code between [ php ] tags it color codes it. Why doesn't it do that for [ code ]? )

This makes code 10 times easier to read.

the php tags utilise the PHP syntax highlighting function that comes with PHP :)

I think it is to prevent something like:

Without wanting to offend andyone inparticular I think replies to posts consisting of no more than a link to Google.com or otherwise should be frowned upon.:rolleyes:
