I had no idea about vB: http://validator.w3.org/check?uri=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.codingforums.com%2Findex.php%3Fs%3D&charset=%28detect+automatically%29&doctype=Inline Almost makes me want to write my own forum that defines it's structure in XML, and support raw content through namespaces.. <forum:thread starter="jkd" date="1/1/1111"> <forum:reply type="original"> vB is messy! </form:reply> <forum:reply from="Thejavaman1"> pimping is <forum:style-bold>cool</forum:style-bold> <forum-smiley type="cool"/> </forum:reply> <forum:reply from="Alex Vincent"> Watch me prove 1/0 = 7 using MathML2.0!: <forum:external-markup> <math xmlns="bla"> <!-- bla --> </math> </forum:external-markup> Neat, huh? </forum:reply> </forum:thread> Etc, and use XLink and XPointer to build real references and links to forums, threads, replies, users, etc.... Server side XSLT transformations to support legacy browsers, raw XML to decent ones, etc. Might be an interesting summer project. :) sir pannels 06-13-2002, 07:46 AM Hey all;), ok gota say this looks much more modern hehe looks cool:) nice work.....so Feyd lookw lonely in the perl/cgi forum hint hint;) sir p meerkat 06-13-2002, 11:03 AM Nice fresh look George. Gonna have to look into the vB code though… meerkat justame 06-13-2002, 04:00 PM Originally posted by jcj did not read any direct info about editing posts, wut i mean to ask is, how much time is available to me to edit my posts?:o jcj... see that just a button® that says...edit ... click that n' you can just a edit® YOURRR post... n' as for the just a timelimit®??? as longgg as your post is there??? you can 'edit' it...:O))) Ökii 06-13-2002, 06:42 PM jcj - another vBulletin board I have visited restricts post editing to with-in 5 minutes of the original post - I'm not sure how much time is allowed here, or if there is a time limit anyway. <script language="javascript"> win = window.open('newpage.htm','win','width=440,height=220,scrolling=no,resizable,status=no'); win.focus(); </script> I'm just using the above to test whether posted codes are recompiled by vBulletin with nasty spaces between certain words. <baited breath>fingers crossed</baited breath> [edit] Not as bad as it could have been - the line breaking is a bit of a pain though [/edit 'ed within 5 mins] brothercake 06-13-2002, 10:14 PM I like this ... especially this  mouse 06-13-2002, 10:47 PM Originally posted by brothercake I like this ... especially this  I prefer:  boxer_1 06-14-2002, 12:05 AM Originally posted by jcj <DIV style="width:300px;height:40px;padding:10px;font-family:Wide Latin;font-size:32px;color:#330000;text-align:right;filter: progid:DXImageTransform.Microsoft.gradient(GradientType=0,startColorstr=#996600, endColorstr=#3399FF)">Where are the links to the scripts of Dynamic_drive?</DIV> HTML code is off (See the box in the lower left hand corner of this page titled "Forum Rules"). I could be missing it as well though ;). x_goose_x 06-14-2002, 03:42 AM  newmate 06-14-2002, 04:04 AM After signing up and creating a post, not even having a chance to get ANY replies, thank you for throwing everything away so I have to sign up all over again and rewrite a post again this time hoping I get it in the correct forum. So what are all the big improvements besides a long winded sign up? Is this the way that webmasters do it, throw away the entire site and start over from scratch just to “upgrade” something in it? It would have been better to lock out new posts and let the threads and replies have a chance and move over to the "new" format over time and have new posts to the new format only. It would have been better to lock out new posts and let the threads and replies have a chance and move over to the "new" format over time and have new posts to the new format only. We tried moving things over, but it proved too daunting a task, especially since some of the files in the old forum are corrupt. newmate 06-14-2002, 05:22 AM Now that I have reregistered and rewritten and reposted, it has been moved to an unbrowsed forum because of the several questions I asked one mentioned something I got from Dynamic Drive. This place LOOKED good at first, but my experiences so far does not support that first impression. Let’s hope this improves greatly SOON. I am just getting started with websites, coding, etc. so I have a question or two to start, but in a few months at most I will be the one with the answers for others if I am true to form. Well good luck, I must have come along at the wrong time. ronaldb66 06-14-2002, 02:20 PM Whoa!!! I was going to say: "i like the look of the new forum!", but that was before i was confronted with the post reply window. Oh well, i'll get used to it... Let me get back on that: the more i use it, the more great user-friendly stuff i see. I must say: this forum works great, once you get the hang of it and discover all the features. Way to go, people! sir pannels 06-14-2002, 02:26 PM so George what ya say about me joing to mod perl/cgi?:D mouse 06-14-2002, 02:26 PM The scrollbars don't do it for me, not W3C compliant either :o redhead 06-14-2002, 07:16 PM like it :D redhead 06-15-2002, 09:13 AM hang on... where would DHTML questions go?.... DOM scripting i 'spose...? forums still lookin' grand... hope it will be as good as the old one ;) Sc00bs 06-16-2002, 09:49 AM W00t Thanks for the help with the password George. I guess we will have to put it down as an unsolved case for Mulder and Skully. Everything is working nice and fine for me now :D sir pannels 06-16-2002, 10:28 AM scoobs...you kinda know of my perl skills right?...back me up here:D applesauce 06-17-2002, 02:17 PM Nice looking forum- except for the green!! Calilo 06-17-2002, 10:28 PM Hey Sir P i back you up, i know you are good, but.... can i also be a mod, there?? sir, i help you you help me Calilo QuackHead 06-17-2002, 10:56 PM Looks great! So far I haven't noticed a difference in speed - the other one was pretty fast, I think this is about the same (I'm always on a fast connection though, so I wouldn't notice) The actual layout/colours/etc. looks awesome, a much needed improvement - the purple buttons clash with the green a little.. but, whatever. (Sorry, I've taken a few graphic design courses.. ;)) So far I like it - I love the Private Messaging feature, and the buddy lists/users online is a great feature!!! ~Quack RoyW 06-20-2002, 03:22 PM I have to say I like the new look. The layout is cleaner with the seperation of the client side/server side categories and then the sub categories within. (I really like the preview option on the post) I was wondering if you were going to create a sticky post on "How to post questions" that first timers could use. I still see a lot of questions from people that don't post a link or don't post their code and when they do post there code they don't use the vbCode [ code ] so it loses all fomatting. (And have you noticed if you post JavaScript code between [ php ] tags it color codes it. Why doesn't it do that for [ code ]? ) <SCRIPT> //This is a comment var str = "This is a string"; function thisIsAFunction(x) { for(var i=0 ; i<x ;i++) document.write("String:" + i + ":" + str); } </SCRIPT> This makes code 10 times easier to read. landon11 06-20-2002, 03:52 PM Will the search here also search the threads from WA? Jeewhizz 06-20-2002, 04:18 PM the php tags utilise the PHP syntax highlighting function that comes with PHP :) jkd 06-20-2002, 11:56 PM I think it is to prevent something like: script kiddy 1337 4AX0RZ stuff, don't click here (javascript:while(1) alert('stupid script kiddy thing to do')) mouse 06-23-2002, 12:14 AM Without wanting to offend andyone inparticular I think replies to posts consisting of no more than a link to Google.com or otherwise should be frowned upon. justame 06-23-2002, 12:29 AM Originally posted by mouse replies to posts consisting of no more than a link to Google.com or otherwise should be frowned upon mou... /me just a giggles® 'cause /me is just a known® for posting 'em...'cept ya know??? youd probably be just a surprised® howww many find the just a solution® there...:O))) just a ps®... nooo offence just a taken® :O))) |
