Server side storage is the other alternative... I use CGI/Perl to store input from my site's users on the server side, and to retrieve it for use later.

The only thing a website can write on a visitor's PC is cookies.
If you are the website developer, you can only save data on your
own web server, not on the visitor's PC.
You could have software to save data on your own PC ... if that
software is running on your PC ... but that's not the control of
the website, it would be something installed on your PC, like a
If you're talking about an "automatic form filler-outer", again, that
would be some software program running on your PC. Same thing
with a key-logger.

oki, thnx guys...
i'm actually trying to create a chat-like or forum-like in an offline single pc for other users to input messages then later one can view it and add more messages.
I tried using cookies but it seems to be unreliable because it can be expired or erased and sometimes all the messages are gone or other related things like limited size, etc etc...
so are there software specialized for that purpose that can be integrated in IE? will Java applets do the work?

For a chat based 'program' you will need some sort of serverside interaction. A database or flatfiles would be manditory (sp). Can't store a chat converstation in a cookie afaik unless it's only ever between 2 people it could be possible, but extremely hard work. Would be best with a serverside language and a database.

in an offline single pc
If this is for a single PC, why do you need web programming? From what I understand, you are using only one computer. Did I miss something or can you just make simple program that saves everything in a text file?
You can do that in c++ in under a minute

thnx for your replies, i really wanted it to be viewed in an internet browser in just one pc, i'm actually working on something like information to be accessed for all users of the computer. i even plan to compile it as an EXE file.
saving a file as a text will also be good.
perviously i use the "view-source" code to open the notepad and add more things inside, like a chat type. but i wanted it easier for others to input text adn just click a button to save.

I want to save all those you typed (fill up) in a text area for CD Webpage... how's that? Saving the file in your computer... (not a webbased) i mean in java script... how will you do that?
