This site is for a music venue in Council Bluffs, IA. Ive put about 40 hours into it and there are still some tweaks needing to be done, my photo gallery in particular. You can wisit the site at www.rebelsrocks.com thank's and let me know what you think.

Ok, first off, it looks nice but there are some serious issues with it.

As always, there's the tables issue. Obviously tables are your thing but it may be worth converting to CSS layouts in the future.

You're using a star background, it's very 90's but you've made it look damn good, thumbs up for the starry background :)

Frames, eek, I don't like. Also, you're using a blue background on the "media", "bands" and "contact" page which totally clashes. It's the worst colour for a website ever, well, that shade of blue anyway. Also, it completely clashes with the font colour.

The font size could be increased as it's a little difficult to read.

Also, there's some broken links (click contact, and then contact again).

Nice design though

I am assuming you are using firefox and thats why you are getting the blue screens. So try looking at it in IE since my adience arn't big computer user's and if they are onl;y a small amout would use FF so, i'm thinking of putting up a splash page and just letting people know that the site is best veiwed in IE. So please try and look at this site in IE then tell me what you think. Thanks.

Image ready slices suck way to choppy loading.

looks really nice. apperacne wise it works. seen the basic thing before but you handled it nicely.

assecebility wise...

your not wanting it to make the site non-IE compliant hurts. Granted most of your users might use IE, but me, clicking from here to see it, and usind Mozilla finds myself at a splash page dogging my browser. Besides the black text, I can only assume anything beyond that page is gonna look pr perform like arse. If i wasnt going there from here and just was relocated them from another site I probally woudn't enter the site much less fir up IE to see it.

The scroll bars need work. Don't make the page scroll bars match the sites scroll bars. In IE the scroll bar is brown on a black background. looks bad. The slider is that thin black that I can hardly see.

the frames need more right margin. the text cramps up on the right scroll bar.

It shouldn't be hard to make it FF compatible. Do it. Make it generic and loose the splash page.

You have to get some rollovers in that navigation. It's almost a crime not to.

All in all it looks damn sweet. i like it. Frames, whatever. You could do it without frames and just use css to handle it but so be it.

It'd be a shame to see a nice looking site go to waste alienating 10% of its users.

graphic talent!

Maybe use a mouseover image for the main nav and position the entire site about 10px margin from the top of the viewport = the available screen

The background-top of the site has top_1.jpg that covers a whole chunk of black and just a little piece of the top background of the site. This way you can never get it positioned more upwards remove the black chunk

I quite like the colour scheme, but not for a rock band. The home page shows a faded book cover type of brown image, which would be fine for a Victorian bookshop or something like that.

Anytime i see that many image placeholders I know I'm in a for a very long wait. not knowing your site i would normally click out; quick. I stuck around for a minute waitng for it to load it looks very nice once loaded but ithink getting folks that know you to stick for loading may not be easy! if there was something to view/read while those images were loaing might make folks a bit more patient.
once the site loads, it looks real nice.

I actually found it worked ok in firefox and loaded very quickly (although I have a 2MB DSL line).

I really disagree with your statement... Its so annoying when I go to a site and see "this site is best viewed in IE... Please use IE", usually i just think to myself "screw this" and leave... I very rarely visit a site that wants to make me use IE over Firefox or Opera. Opera being said, it doesnt support the background image you have on the scrolling content or upcoming shows.

Anyways, as for "So try looking at it in IE since my adience arn't big computer user's and if they are onl;y a small amout would use FF", is a very dangerous statement to make.. None of my friends are big computer users like me, yet about 70% of them use FireFox. Admittedly word of mouth has spread between my friends (close and distant), but you are looking at 50-100 people just here who would be asked to change browser for your site.

The point i'm trying to make is, that if you are asking for a review, then we will want to help make your site the best it can be, and one of those things is cross browser compatability...Its not looking bad on any browser, so you could go the whole way and make it into valid XHTML without using tables for layout.

The only problem is i don't know xhtml and ive only worked with tables, i don't know how to use n e thing else, i'm doing the best i can with what i known. i took down the splash page and i know it works with FF, IE, and NS it dosn't work with macs version of IE though... but with your guy's help i could do it. thanks for all the help.

Hmm... I dont mean to sound offensive but the chances are more of your friends are using firefox than Mac IE. That being said however, I (and many of the other peopel here) would only be willing to help you improve your site if you plan to start using semantic coding (XHTML without tables).

I was really impressed when I saw your design. It's really nice. But when I browsed other pages, I noticed that the texts are in images? You could have used an iframe and put your text on it if you want to preserve the size of your layout and background.

Heck, Mac IE doesn't ship with either Tiger or new Macs nowadays. Safari, Camino and Firefox are the Mac browsers to care about.

Wrong answer for sure. Better idea: fix the site and forget the splash page. Don't discount Firefox or any browser, and I know of a lot non-webbies who use it. That kind of thinking will bite you in the butt down the road.

That said, I like the looks of the site, good job in that regard.

Yeah, Firefox's market share is always increasing, it is actually pretty surprising how many people that aren't super computer savvy use it.

You should also add a doctype and specify the content encoding on your site too, that would a good idea.

The doctype you'll probably want to use is:

<!DOCTYPE html PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD HTML 4.01 Transitional//EN"
"http://www.w3.org/TR/html4/loose.dtd"> and it goes right above your <html> tag.

The best things about it (I think) are the colour scheme and the simple layout. Liked it.
