View Full Version : Create Logins for Clients Only to See There Pages

10-18-2005, 11:52 PM
I have a series of editable forms and reports that I have created for clients to fill in, edit, save, print etc. in a web application based on PHP and MySQL.

I now want to allocate these to individual clients (about 15) and a secure login for them with the ability to be able to only see their forms and their reports and none of the other clients.

Suggestions as to how we could go about this conceptually or in detail would be appreciated or if any one knows of any existing software that would assist in achieving this.

Any recommended books, articles etc would also help.

Thank you as always

Does your server run Apache? If so you could use .htaccess to do what you are wanting to do. There is a pretty good tutorial on JavaScript Kit (http://www.javascriptkit.com) about it.

PHP has built-in functions to work with sessions; this forms the basis of user identification and authorisation.

I haven't read the article in full, but User identification using cookies in PHP/MySQL (http://www.devarticles.com/c/a/PHP/User-identification-using-cookies-in-PHP-MySQL/) on Dev Articles looks like a very useful starting point for setting up user identification and authorisation.
You can find more about sessions (http://www.php.net/manual/en/ref.session.php) and how to use them on the PHP website.
