Anyone know where I can get a really good looking magnifying glass cursor? The one I made is crap and I cant seem to find one - seems you can get thousands of 'free' cursors but none of them a simple magnifying glass :(

Hang on- do you want magnifying glass functionality, like an accessibility feature, or do you want a custom cursor that looks like a magnifying glass symbol?!!

Just a cursor that looks like a magnifying glass - no shortage of magnifying programs when I try to google for one... Basically the client wants a magnifying glass icon to view a larger image (I'm aware that this only works in IE 6 - but thats over 80% - everyone else gets the hand)

I did a quick rummage around for free mouse pointers and there indeed is very little quality out there. Maybe you're better of looking in the direction of specialist vendors of drawing and design software; magnifying glass pointers are commonly used in such packages.
It does seem however that there are no standard mouse pointers for web environments, even IE proprietary ones; I stumbled upon a couple of forum and mailing list entries that all basically confirmed this.

How about something like this:
http://www.fontstuff.com/frontpage/fptut15.htm

You create your cursor using a graphic program like mspaint or an icon program.
Save the image as .bmp, then use a program like Paintshop to save as a .cur or
.ani type file. This site above explains how to use the cursor on the webpage.

If you found a good looking magnifying glass icon, you could use it as a cursor if
you save it as a .cur file.

If this is a "one-time" deal, download a trial software package and use it for
14 days (or whatever) to make your cursor.
