As I stated in an earlier forum, I'm pretty much a newby to the webpage thing. I've had mine up and running for about a year now, but I'm just now getting to where I want more advanced goodies. I currently pay someone to host my website and they are MySQL database compliant. What I'm wanting to do is create some sort of file in my storage to my remote host (for lack of better words) that will allow members to upload images and then link those images to my forum, so we can view pictures and stuff (not nudies......wife won't let me...lol). I want that file to be password protected, but will allow users the flexibility of creating their own username and password; yet I want to be able to have supreme rule and have the final word in the matter, so I think I'll need some sort of database or something. My host allows me three seperate databese in which I believe I could use for what I'm trying to accomplish.
I'm not sure if I've explained what I'm looking for in proper terms, but I hope I've at least explained what I'm looking for well enough for someone to understand. Again, I apologize for the lack of proper language, but I'm still pretty much learing this stuff. Thanks

There are many free scripts (written in PHP) that have image gallery
management using MySQL. Even if you find a free script, you need to
install it and make it work.

The learning curve on this is rather high, unless you have previous
programming experience. I don't know of anything that's turn-key.

You may also want to look into a remote service where you can
upload images on the internet (without any MySQL knowledge).
The remote service stores images for you. It may be something
you pay for with a yearly fee, or maybe there's something free.

.... also, how many images are you talking about?

My website is just a personal website mostly for me and my friends. We do alot of semi-extreme mountain biking. I was just wanting a program that would allow friends to upload pictures or small video's that they've taken instead of emailing them all to me and then waiting on my lazy butt to get it done. To sum it up, it wouldn't be alot of pictures. My hosting company allows for 3 gig of space, so storage for images I don't think would be much of an issue.
What kind of remote service are you referring too? I'm not familiar with anything like that.

I was thinking of something like: http://www.flickr.com ...
but I don't think you can upload videos (only photos?)

There must be others out there that know of a "remote media gallery".

I also looked at: http://www.picturetrail.com/
same thing ... photos, but not videos.

=====================

The other option would be to "tone-it-down" a bit ...
Come up with a simple upload script that puts images into
a directory and just displays them as a list of files. No MySQL,
no security (or not much). If you had some scripting skills,
like Perl or PHP and your webhost has "imagemagick", you
could do more ... but again, it involves some programming.

That's why it might be nice to just subscribe to a remote
gallery online service.
