Two popups, same page

I've been surfing for a while but have not found exactly what I need. Hopefully someone can help.

I have a gallery page with thumbnail images. Under each image there's a java link that opens a popup with an html document. I would like to add a link to each thumbnail that opens another popup with the large image. How would I do this?

instead of links put buttons with onclick="open2pu(1);return false;"

function open2pu(thumbIdx) {
window.open(thumbIdx + '.html',......
window.open(thumbIdx + '.jpg',......
}

Thank you for responding.* I'm lost. I've made a button, but I think I'm doing something incorrectly. It looks so simple yet I can't get it to work. Can you give me an example of exactly how you would do it so I can just copy, paste and edit?

My knowledge is limited, so any and all help is appreciated.
