the free version is a cool tool to use.
and if you use your local ip to connect to the other pc it uses your network Connection and not your internet.
some thing like 192.168.1.4 or what ever it my be. But if the pc is at someone elses house then use there Wan ip address and make sure to unblock the port from the firewall

If you use Windows XP Professional you could use the remote desktop program in that.

in my view vnc is a lot better then that it may work but it's just standard windows program nothing much to it also it could be a little tricky for the average user to use where vnc as soon as you open the view side you just type in ip and away you go. vnc also seems faster to me. not sure if am right or not as i used the windows remote ages ago but it seems to send things across you may not need where vnc cuts out all that and does what it says on the tin.
Also as a windows program it could be a target for security issues like firefox has nothing to do with windows and is much more secure then IE explorer because of that erm if you know what i mean can't be arsed to explain that well as its about 3:50 in the morning.
or you could go into services start telnet and open all ports and let people have fun with your pc. or just open telnet port don't forget you can also type CMD to start it blah blah blah am going to bed now.

VNC's handy to remote control Mac and Windows 2000 systems from other pcs - You can't RD into Win 2k unless you've got terminal services set up.
