View Full Version : in need of major help

okay. i just signed up for a domain and hosting. nothing grand, just a modest delux package on a linux server.

the purpose of my website will be to post staff film reviews, AS WELL AS comments/feedback forum for each review. (*sort of* like aint-it-cool-news, but more blog format).

my question, is, how on EARTH do i go about doing this? i want to be able to upload the reviews easily-- i've been doing long, drawn out simple html notepad reviews at my old host and manually uploading/indexing my reviews alphabetically and by genre. how do i go about, now that i have a host which allows cgi and php (2 things i know NOTHING about), making this happen?

i tried using the free web portal called POSTNUKE which came with my hosting site, but it has too many features i don't want. the only thing i liked about it was it organized my reviews easily by typing them and just hitting submit and indexed everything on its own. it even did a top 10 thing where u could see the most popluar reviews and such.

so, does anyone know how to do this? there is so much mroe i'd like to do for the site, but this is my initial concern. can anyone please point me in the right direction?

thank u.

If you don't want to use any of free webportals, nukes and similar, your only alternative is to learn PHP and SQL.

You may also want to look into this book:
"XML and SQL" by Daniel K. Appelquist,
because it gives you a perfect example on how you should go about this project. The author uses movie reviews site as an example throughout the entire book.
