I am trrying to create a diagonal edge (with slight rounding) for a navigation bar. Does anyone know how to do this in photoshop 5.5? Is it possible? How are these typically done?

Did you try the elliptical marquee?

Mcookie,
Yes, and I can create a rounded edge with that. But I was not able to do a decent diagonal with the elliptical marquee - it is designed for rounded stuff, no? I have seen plenty of sites that have a sharp diagonal edge on a menu graphic. Maybe slice tool in imageready?

Slice tool?
You can't make a triangular image, can you?
When you have a square or rectangular, choose the elliptical marquee and make a long, small selection.
Then choose Select > Transform Selection
Right after that choose Edit > Transform > Rotate
Rotate your selection until it's diagonal and make the part you don't want transparant or give it the background color of the page..

Mcookie,
OK, thanks! That helps plenty.
