problem with win 98 installation

HELP!!!

I have an old Compaq Presario 1245 notebook. I had to format the hard drive using the Win98 boot disk. After formatting, I tried to put the Windows 98 disk in the CDRom drive but I get this message:
CDR101: Not ready for reading drive F.

I have tried several things and I keep getting that same message.

The Windows 98 CD is good - I put it in my desktop pc and everything is on it.

The CDRom drives sounds like it is making noise and spinning, so I think it is ok, but not sure.

Any experts out there that give me some idea as to how I can get Windows 98 back on this laptop??

Are you able to get into the bios? You can check to see if the cd rom drive is active. It should be your secondary drive.

Some older cd drives don't support booting from CD at all. Also have you verified that the 98 cd is actually bootable? I don't think you need the floppy to start the boot process, seeing as I've installed 98 a few times in the past and didn't need to use it.

I got into the BIOS and the CDRom is the secondary master. I tried to boot just from the CD, but it just bypasses it and goes to a C: prompt.

If anybody know any way that I can get Windows 98 back on this laptop, I would really appreciate it.

Another thing came to mind - can I remove the hard drive from the laptop and put in another desktop pc and copy the windows 98 files onto it and then reinstall it in the laptop and do the install??
