Hello, I would like to ask you peeps to visit my links page and add a few links to either your websites or any good webdev related websites you know.

Oops, you might want to do some checking on the submissions before you post them to the site. I just added "Site Name" to test it. Sorry.

I really like the way you did that!

Since you do not allow wrap on the site description, I suggest you put character limitation there.

Nice job all around

A small suggestion if I may:

When you select a link on your links page the new page replaces your page.
This means your visitor has left your site..... maybe prematurely.... and may select a link from the new page and so on and so on, without seeing all your site.
Could be an idea to have your links open in a new window?

Just a thought

Personally, I would find that annoying.

I am going to make the links open in a new window, for now the site is under construction and little things like this get fixed everyday .

Also thanks ionsurge I'll have the script for download soon, it also includes a admin part to it which only appears when you are logged in as admin.

And Vladdy, I noticed what you mean. I'll do that now.

Also what do you peoples think of have different link sections? like PERSONAL WEBDEV(ASP,JS,HTML,FLASH,etc) and more if you can think of them?

I'm with ionsurge on that one.
When you click on a link, opening a page the link is pointing to is the expected behavior (unless you are accustomed to porn sites). If a visitor wanted to explore more, he/she would not click on a link that is clearly presented to be to another site. If after following one of the links, visitor wishes to return to the site, well that is why browsers have BACK button.
Opening new windows is just a bad style.
If there is a concern that the linked sites do something stupid that disrupts normal navigation flow, just put on the page something along the lines of "Sites presented here may disrupt normal navigation flow that will make it impossible to return to this page using the BACK button of your browser. Consider opening these links in a new window".
The point is that user should be in charge of his/her desktop and web sites need to be designed to run in the space given to them.

Vladdy good point I didn't consider that at all. It is a bit obvious that people would be in that section and clicking of a link if they really wanted to. It's not like that un-experienced surfers would not be at my website anyway as it is targeted at newbee developers which I'm guessing should know what a link page is.

I have seen the err of my ways, LOL. Thanks Vladdy...

Mhtml,

Just a thought for your links page: if you expect to have lots of links one possibility is to arrange them in two (or more columns) grouping by category and present the description in the form of tooltip. It would also remove the strict limitation on the description length that you have now......

You would have to use .php for that wouldn't you? (I dont know - I am just asking).

By the way, I know it is resolved, I personnally, like millions of other people hate pop-ups, and even if it may be a part of the actual site, I just close it automatically, without thinking about it.

gotta disagree :)

links to internal pages should open in the same window unless there is good reason why not, and links to external sites should open in a new window (at least thats the way I see things :P)

most links pages on many sites behave this way and i think thats quite acceptable and is totally different (IMO) to pop-ups etc , in fact i get quite annoyed when I have to right click to open a page in a new window (and when they have a no-right click script as well grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr)

Yes I think that would be an excellent addition. It will better your UI if they are categorized(organized) instead of just listed down the page. I am not sure about the pop-up thing, I guess as long as their not ads or flash I do not mind.

What categories should I have though? One for each language or for tutorials? I'm not sure if more than 3 to 4 categories would be un tidy....

Ok, I have done some categories. Don't worry if your link you put in before isn't there at the moment as I am sorting them now.

Also the alignment and stuff is a bit weird but that will be fixed when I am satisfied that it is working properly.

In my previous post I suggested the new window senario, but the word "popup" seems to have worked its way into this debate.

Popups are those nauseating small windows used by advertisers that won't go away.

I suggested a standard size window, or do we class any sized window that is opened via "window.open" a popup.

I think I'll add a user control panel on the links page which will enable people to launch the links in a new window if they choose.

That is pretty clever... :)

thanks, I'm thinking of making my whole site have the ability to be customized for each individual.

I think if I do this I will have a user login to be able to do it just because I like to have control. lol:D
