if i could how would i go about restoring my computer back to when i bought it untainted (non phycial) i.e only files that come with the computer on the harddrive all clean for a fresh start

Without having to format it because Mircosoft dont provide installation disks

That depends on what kind of computer is it and what restore it has on there.
My Gateway came with recovery CDs for this. My Mom's Dell did, too.
What kind is it, where did you buy it, what came with, etc?
Windows XP, 98...?

its a fujitsu siemens Amilo laptop computer and i was hoping there would be an option actually as part of windows xp ( service pack II) which enabled me to restore factory setting because im not sure the cd's provided with the system are what im looking for

EDIT:

i have 2 Cd's one of them is a product recovery CD

the other is a drivers and utilites CD im asuming i will need to format my computer then insert these cd's although im not sure in what order and how would i format my pc

You'd use the product recovery disk first and it is most likely pretty much automated, it would automatically re-format and re-install Windows.

Then you would use the driver CD once you were back in Windows to get all your hardware working.
