Lock file when in use

Hello all,

I'm wondering if anyone knows of any software for locking an asp \ html file when it is being worked on. We currently have 2 people working on a single application and would like to prevent us from overwriting each others work. At this time we are simply renaming the file on the test server when one of us is working on it. In times of haste however this leaves a margin for human error. I know dreamweaver has a similar capability, but we don't use a CMS of any kind. Any suggestions greatly appreciated.

I'd suggest using a source control system, such as CVS (free).
You need something to keep an eye on it. Unless you roll your own, you'd need to download one, anyway. Go with a stable, free tool like CVS.

You have to use a CMS. If you want to handle this correctly.
