ASP sidebar moves main frame down

Hi. Im working on an asp/html website. Whenever I insert an asp sidebar, somehow it shifts the main frame down below where it is meant to sit (in the same column but next to the sidebar instead of beneath to it).

eg. meant to look like this:

sidebar.......mainframe

looks like:

sidebar
................mainframe

I dont have the same problem with an HTML sidebar - that works fine, so Im confused... and I cant see anything in the coding about spaces.

The other question I have, Im working on a mac running OSX, and ASP displays in Dreamweaver with what appears to be broken links, but displays properly in IE - is this normal?

Im VERY new at asp programing and cant see any way to fix this, any help or advice would be very much appreciated.

Does this do the same across all browsers? Are you using cascading style sheets in your layout? Whether your content is delivered dynamically through asp or is static html it shouldn't make a difference in the layout. The one thing that can change it is if you answered yes to the CSS and this is an IE only problem then it is created by whitespace.

Thank you, thats given me something to think about - I didnt create this site from scratch, I had to take a partially existing site (that the designer had sat on for 11 months) and develope it. I dont know if the specific pages originally were designed with css, but Ill check. Thank you so much for the suggestion, hold thumbs that it works :p
