Urgent help needed

I have never used asp before but I need to use it now, I would like to know what the coding is that asp uses to make a connection with a database, I am using asp to connect my xml to a database but I have no idea where to start. If anybody has any help for me, from just telling me where I start from or examples of the code I should be using, any help would be greatly appreciated.
