I have used Dreamweaver a few times, and am thinking of buying it. However, there's that new version MX out now. Should I stick with version 4, or go straight to the latest version? Be aware that I want to get Dreamweaver largely for personal use (working on my own website etc).

from what i've heard, if you have 4, stick with it. if you dont' have dreamweaver at all, go with MX. the differences aren't so great that you'll miss MX if you have 4, but if you don't have anything, go with the latest.
note that i don't have either 4 or MX, this is all just stuff that i've read.

I have DW4, and it's pretty good. It serves my purposes. I haven't used DW MX mainly because if i try it, I'm afraid I'll end up buying it :). Yeah you should definetly go with the latest version if you don't have DW at all.

I currently use DW MX and it has quite a bit new features. Prior to that I used DW4. I would go with DW MX as DW4 has been out for quite some time. DW typically designs pages with the most current browsers in mind at the time of it's release. I believe DW4 came out just prior to NS6 so it would be wise to go with the latest version.

You can make it function like DW4 in some ways, gui etc...
I have both, because I needed to upgrade to flash MX so I got studio MX.
So many new features, the new GUI it's so great.
If you do a lot of serverside like me (well if you can call it ss;)) it's great, It has autocomplete features which are great for all languages..
You can now preview using your server you can do all soughts of new things....I'm rambling a bit but if you ask me they have improved it 100%
Same goes for flash fireworks and freehand they are all so good now..
If you have a choice get MX..
I sound like a MM spokes person lol..:)

I have ben using DW 4 for the last year or so and have just got MX, because I use 4 all the time MX will take a while to get used to with the new layout - but if you don't use 4 often you won't notice it.
The toolbars are better located instead of floating so that they don't get in your way - although you have the option for DW4 layout - and there are a lot of new features such as the support for php.
Another advantage I find is that you can open the site folder in the same window instead of a new one - much nicer.
I would suggest going for MX.

Could someone give me a quick list of features that are new to Dreamweaver MX? Really just the major/most relevant ones.

I prefer MX, but there is not much real difference to it compared with v4...
If you got the money, go for it, but I personally do not think that there is much point. It like Office 2000 compared with XP, not much difference apart from the GUI... and the outragous costs.

Hey Grant
Definately go for Dreamweaver MX. I have both 4 and MX and to tell you the truth, MX blows version 4 out of the water. The main thing to consider is where webpages are going.
If you haven't already heard, XHTML is the new standard being introduced and is fairly different to HTML. The good thing is that MX supports this new standard and is also great if u r gonna be doing some scripting. New features such as ASP.Net ready makes it an excellent choice.
The layout is definately better in MX and also other features already mentioned in other replies make it the best choice.
Well, that's my opinon anyways! :)

Is it just me, or do you guys find that using MX uses a helluva lot more resources than DW4?
It seems I can't have something such as, for example, Music Match Jukebox open at the same time as MX without it getting really slow and not responding right!
