When linking to validate a page I'm getting the 'No Referer header found!' - but it works on other sites!

I don't get that error when actually entering the page address into the validator - only when linking with http://validator.w3.org/check?uri=referer .

Could it be because the page is SSL-secured?

Mark do you happen to have Norton Internet Security? Its known to block header information from being sent.

Nope, I found out it must have been the SSL doing it - the non-SSL version worked fine. No matter, I just changed the link so instead of going to the referrer it just goes to the actual url instead. :)

I just ran across this problem. It never arose until I installed IE7. But Norton Internet Security was coincidentally behind this issue. It bothered me for awhile since a system restore point from back when this didn't happen didn't work. I thought it was some internal net http dll support failure in Windows since neither Mozilla or IE would work. Programs like this do sneaky stuff in the background. If your favorite program takes forever to gain internet access, it's likely a judgement call by Norton that may have broken the chain of command with the user's judgement.
