rlemon 07-14-2005, 04:01 AM New Design (http://rlemon.com/new_sites/grl/index.php?n=1&p=home.php)
i know, i know. i'm not done one design and i start another. well i just wasn't pleased with the other design so i decided to hit the drawing boards.
started this template a while ago and never really did anything with it. then came back and touched it up a bit, *cough*ALOT*cough*
so let me know what you think
Works best in FF / Mozilla / NS
works well in IE cept there is a problem with the image scroller :S
harbingerOTV 07-14-2005, 04:39 AM first thing:
tiled background should be fixed IMO. gets real uneasy on the eyes if not I think.
Second thing:
It just SCREAMS template.
Theres nothing to break it out of the "hi Im a template" shell.
I'm sure someone will say add some more color and the typical color for the silver/blue scheme is orange. I say add maroon and spice it up some. Graphicaly of course. Adding colored text isn't going to do anything if you don't have a block of the color some where else.
rlemon 07-14-2005, 05:16 AM what do you mean by template?
i'm still working on it, getting a friend to design a logo for me. if you meant it's very plain right now.
zro@rtv 07-14-2005, 09:15 AM obviously in the works and plain.
I think harbinger means metalic and scan lines are used?
and everything is squared.
I personally dont like blue.
don't think the bg is THAT straining on the eyes, but i see the criticism,...
honestly need to see more content b4 real criticism....
just looks like a block of metal right now.
...which really isnt that interesting.
solid, tho.
looks like something you'd do for corporate commercial use, not personal expression.
rlemon 07-14-2005, 09:17 PM well, i toned down the background image a bit and I made my own logo, the one my buddy made for me was too graphic for my taste.
he's a graphics designer so we have different preferences when it comes to things like this.
what does everyone think of the logo? new design_logo (http://rlemon.com/new_sites/grl/index.php?n=1&p=home.php)
zro@rtv 07-14-2005, 10:32 PM cool logo (i still dont like blue)...
should post a link to the one yr buddy did, too (so people can tell you you're wrong and should use the other one (haha))... just curious what it looked like...
your are gonna fill the empty space next to the logo, right?
rlemon 07-14-2005, 10:57 PM yes, the empty space will be filled.
umm, lets see if he still has it on his server
nope..... good thing i saved them

Ranger56 07-14-2005, 11:18 PM Well, I like it all, except for the image scroller, makes you look unprofessional when you have a picture of a guy pointing to his ****.
JamieR 07-14-2005, 11:33 PM picture of a guy pointing to his ****.
haha...I noticed that :D
Erm nice site but the nav links are too small and I'm not too sure about those images, especially, as ranger said, of the one pointing to his 'ackle :p
rlemon 07-15-2005, 12:10 AM hahahaha, yea. those are just random images i found on my pc. i should put some actual work in it.
updated image scroller (http://rlemon.com/new_sites/grl/index.php?n=1&p=home.php)
ok there we go, i also added a image preloader to the gallery, makes it fade better on my pc.
not my best work but all i could find right now.
i just formatted my pc. it's all still on a backup cd somewhere
harbingerOTV 07-15-2005, 01:40 AM What I meant by the template comment was it's pretty straight forward. Has that "I've seen this before" look to it. Nothing wrong with that of course. To each his own.
I don't think I like the very top gradient bar above the header.
I like your logo better. On his the sharp white leading edges are kinda harsh and they make the E look funny.
On yours, what would it look like if you took the word "web design" and made it run underneath the logo? Just stretching it out or spacing the letters to span the length?

good idea
Implemented.
