Hi everyone.

I am a total noobee so bare with me. Also, if this is not the appropriate forum, I apologize.
At one point, several years ago, I installed Add2it's Mailman Free (mailing list script) and it was so easy. The site I had it installed to went down a month ago and I need the mailing list back now but I cant for the life of me get it installed on any account I've set up.

I am using only free accounts from many different places (50webs.com, 5gigs.com, etc) that all claim to have Perl and CGI included.

Following the instructions from Add2it (http://www.add2it.com/scripts/mailman-free.shtml) , I used gFTP (on linux) and uploaded all files in ASCII (or whatever, not binary) into the public_http/cgi-bin/mmf/ directory. They are all set to 755 but for testing I even tried them all being 777.

Add2it says I can then go to "http://www.yourserver.com/cgi-bin/mmf/install.pl" so I go to (for example) http://www.jesusphreak.unix-shells.net/cgi-bin/mmf/install.pl but I get "500 Internal Server Error" everytime. I know it knows there is a file named "install.pl" because otherwise it would tell me "404 Not found," right?

So I tried setting it up using apache (also used apache several years ago but know nothing about it now). I set up apache correctly as far as I know because when I go to http://localhost I get the apache screen. I dropped all the files (again using 755 and then 777) into the /usr/local/apache2/cgi-bin/mmf/ . When I executed http://www.localhost/cgi-bin/mmf/install.pl I get "Internal Server Error" again...
I can't believe it is a bad script because it is directly from the company's website.

I am sure this a question more suitable asked to the company but it doesn't look like they provide free tech support for the "free" customers.

I'm so new at this that maybe I am just missing something really obvious.

Thanks for ANY help you can provide!

-Stephen

I don't want to sound like I'm "copping out" on this one, but maybe it's worth the $20 to have them install it for you.

An option on their download site:
Yes, I want no worries, no headaches and no problems! I get full installation of the software script to my server for only $20!

It's just takes longer and is harder to communicate back and forth using a forum like this. If I was new to Perl, I personally would spend the $20 myself.
