Getting value from alternate website

Hello everyone,

ok this is going to sound a bit weird but what i want to do is this.

I have a page with a form on that submits the entered value to google.com
as the following ; www.google.com/search?q=my+value+here

now .. on googles results page it says . displaying 1 - 10 of x results

I want to know how to get that total value ( x ) & use it for my own means further on on my script

i hope i have explained it ok .. i know what i am trying to say but not sure if it is coming out properly :(
