So I saw Star Wars III last weekend- the lineup was crazy, but somehow I remember Mission Impossible II's being a lot longer. :) Anyhow, I would give the movie a B. It's pretty good, but I can't help but feel George Lucas has been hiding behind awesome special effects with the last 3 prequels, and there's something missing substance wise in all three. I had great hopes for SW III, but while watching it, I didn't feel emotionally attached to anyone or anything, it was just a visual feast. Finally, I wished they would have had more scenes with Darth Vadar after he got strapped on to that suit of his, glorifying him more. A scene where Vadar is greeted and saluted by legions of his armies would have been nice.

In conclusion, not bad, but I probably won't watch it again on the big screen.

The ending felt rushed. There was a disturbing lack of emotion.

Maybe Lucas isn't the director he used to be. The light saber action was cool, though General Grievous and 4 light sabers seemed to be too much.

Phantom Menace - Darth Maul and one awesome double-bladed saber. Eh, perverts the Jedi/Sith legend some, still pretty cool though.

Attack of the Clones - Anakin briefly with 2 sabers. Could have lasted longer.

Revenge of the Sith - General Grievous with 4. Unnecessary, though droids/cyborgs with light sabers is a cool idea.

We'd probably see 8 in the next movie, if there was one.

I've not watched it yet, but could it be a case of there being a sense of 'duty' about the film?

What I mean is, did Lucas make it because he was driven to tell a story - or did he make it because he thought he 'should'?

Personally I'll go and watch it from a sense of duty - Star Wars is part of my life (I still have all the old Marvel comics, and a substantial collection of bubblegum cards in the attic ;) )

I'm glad this is the last one - I wouldn't want billionaire Lucas messing with my rose tinted nostalgia anymore!

Star Wars, Jaws, Close Encounters, you just get the feeling that the respective directors of those seminal films have lost the plot - or maybe times have changed and the mumbly under-acting of the originals wouldn't cut it any more?

I am going to go see it this weekend. Last weekend I spent watching episodes 1,2,4,5 and 6 to refresh my memory. Watching the all together I saw many holes in the story going from the new ones to the originals.

I enjoyed it though I always expected to.

Anakin's actual turn to the dark side was perhaps a bit too compressed I suppose ,which is what, from one aspect the film is all about , and yes after all the time they have had to work out how to portray it, they could have done much better.

However , its Star Wars , not War and Peace, its not meant to be too deep or taken too seriously , nor should anyone expect the critics to like it , its swashbuckling fantasy to be enjoyed , In fact I think they tried too hard to add substance to something that does not require it.

I am going to see it again & I suspect again :D

Having been ill, I've been unable to see it, although I will, inevitably, be seeing it soon.

Sidious: You wanna come to the dark side?
Ani: Eh, sure why not. I'm always up for change.
Sidious: Good, now go and kill essentially everyone else in this movie...except for me even though you will in about twenty years.
Ani: What?
Sidious: Nothing. Oh by the way you get a cool nickname.
Ani: As long as it is better than Ani.
Sidious: Yeah, that is a dumb nickname. How about Darth Vader?
Ani: Sweet!

Of the three prequels this definetly stands out as the winner. I think I liked it most because you got that sense of, "Oh, ok it all makes sense now". Where as the other two, just kinda made you walk out of the theater wondering what this had to do with anything and why I just spent $9.00 to see it, I guess just so he could make some grotesque amount of money on one good film, by parsing it out into three.

The first three films were complete, I thought, so the additional epic sagas have had no appeal. Sounds like I haven't missed much...

Besides, computer generated effects always seem a bit too epic, somehow. ;)

True. I always dug the handcrafted models - what a cool job that must have been - far more rewarding than sitting at 3d studio-max, Maya or whatever: coming home smelling of glue and epoxy resin - rather than coming home with a huge migraine!

When did you see it?

As I say, I'm not a star wars fan really, but I might as well go and see it as I'm not one for missing out on things ;)

I went to the premeire and i thought it was brilliant!

a real rollercoaster ride, with non stop action, thrills and emotion for vader!

it had to tie alot of ends(too many)! , for its critics.

Conclude:

Im just really glad I got to have the experience of the epic star wars in my generation on the big screen!, thrilling! The best saga of all time!

may the force be with u! (sorry i could not resist)

I'm hoping Mel Brooks does Spaceballs: The Prequel now. :D

Episode III rocked. Anakin turned out to be a real *******.

I went to see it yesterday with my younger brother. We both loved it (especially my brother)! This is really saying something, because I've never been a Star Wars fan. :) Highly recommended!
