Do you think it's a good idea to have movement on a webpage?
Either gif images or marquees- whatever!
Ddoes it enhance the site or make it look too busy?
I'm just interested because I have a split idea on the subject!
Thanks!
Lissy
I think you can view webpage movement in much the same way as you view the opening of a CD compartment on a new stereo - ie the smoother and slower the movement, the better the product.
As far as animated gifs and marquees go - just say NO.

Your reply made me smile!
I think you're right about streamlining, whats your opinion of mouseover image changes?
I've seen some really awful gifs!

My own thoughts on animation is that it can be useful and helpful to the surfer but rarely ever is. Animation when used should only be used to draw the user's attention to the most important information but should never include that information. Note the on the web the presense of even a single ad banner pretty much negates any usefulness provided by animation because of all the animation in advertisements.
Animation should never be used gratuitously, ever surf to a page that looked like an explosion at the ACME Factory? How about trying to read text that's moving, blinking etc? Of course we've all had to patiently wait while a long bit of content we wanted to read was slowly scrolled through some abominable marque. Content should be clearly visible and stand still so the user can actually read it.
Mouseover effects are good and can help indicate additional information, links etc to the user but it's not good when the only way some content is made available require the use of the mouse.

Wow.
I think you've just hit the nail on the head.
Ever thought of public speaking?!
Lissy :)
