Sorry, this didn't seem to fit in any other forum.

I was wondering what kind of job a computer science major would get?

I can go for a degree in this but it seems too general. who needs to hire a computer science major?

People who need a program get a programmer. People who need a network set up get a network engineer. People who need a network run get a network admin...

There seems to be a more specific category for everyones needs...

I would say a computer engineer could probably get the same job as a software engineer, but you might fit in some place that makes games, or even makes computers, like the software that goes in the computers, or even just circuitry. This would have been best in the Computer Programming Forum, don't cross post, a moderator will move this for you if they have to.

Well, this doesn't have anything to do with programming really...

The computer science course path has assembly and algorythym making but no hard programming courses.

Its all very general computer related courses.

EDIT - I just looked again and I did see a few programming courses.

So a computer science major would most likely go into somethign that requires hardware and software knowledge?

computer science is mostly concerned with the higher theory behind programming, and as such would a computer science graduate would likely end up working as a programmer.

I think it works off logic - if you're good at maths and gain a degree in computer science, you will probably end up working as a programmer.

Computer Science definately isn't light on the programming.

The curriculum for my bachelors in computer science was very heavy into programming as well as all the other common topics such as logic and computer science/programming theory.

I currently work as a software engineer.

I am from Scotland and dont know how your education system works, but over here, with a comp science degree, you would have lots of job options available. Vapor gave a good list there, i would probably go for software engineering. I hope to do something along those lines once i get my degree.
