I have been asked to put some video clips on a school website. The site is xhtml1.1 compliant, so using the embed tags is a no-no! I have worked on this all morning and the code below works great in IE, Netscape and Firefox. Opera unfortunately is using the code for IE but only displaying the alt image -it won't play the video. I am totally perplexed as to why the other browsers will play the movie but not Opera - can anyone help me out here please?

<!--[if !IE]> Firefox and others will use outer object -->
<object data="/movies/MVC-011V.MPG" type="video/quicktime"
width="160" height="128" class="imageleft" >
<param name="controller" value="true"/>
<param name="autoplay" value="false"/>
<!--<![endif]-->
<!-- MSIE (Microsoft Internet Explorer) will use inner object -->
<object
classid="clsid:02BF25D5-8C17-4B23-BC80-D3488ABDDC6B"
codebase="http://www.apple.com/qtactivex/qtplugin.cab" width="160" height="128" class="imageleft" >
<param name="src" value="/movies/MVC-011V.MPG"/>
<param name="controller" value="true"/>
<param name="autoplay" value="false"/>
<img src="/graphics/midi-image.jpg" width="160" height="128" alt="A movie of smoothies being made" />
</object>
<!--[if !IE]> close outer object -->
</object>
<!--<![endif]-->

Thank you very much indeed!

May not solve your problem as the object is a flash and not an mpg movie but may give you some ideas.

Thank you, but no, that's not the answer. I'm familiar with the Flash satay method, which is mainly where this bit
<object data="/movies/MVC-011V.MPG" type="video/quicktime"
width="160" height="128" class="imageleft" >
<param name="controller" value="true"/>
<param name="autoplay" value="false"/></object> originates from. I tried that code all by itself to start with with poor results in the non IE browsers.
Thank you for your idea though - I could easily have missed something really simple!

Well, I'll be damned! The video is now working - and I haven't changed the code! It hasn't worked all day, so i don't what on earth has happened to persuade it to play ball!

Thanks anyway!
