If I hear something in real player (or windows media player) is there a way I can record the audio so that it is stored in a sound file on my hard drive -- I just want the sound without the visual?

You could use an audio editor such as Wavelab, but I'm guessing you wouldn't have one of those so...
Open up sound mixer (start>control panel>sounds and audio devices>volume tab>advanced button).
Options>Properties - select recording and click OK.
Select 'Wave' as input device.
Open up sound recorder (start>run>'sndrec32').
Record. :)

Wow, that's great. Only thing: where do you 'Select 'Wave' as input device.'?

When you open the sound mixer, go to Options>Properties and select recording - then click OK, the mixer comes up in recording mode. Just select the tick box under 'Wave'.

One more question on this... When I record using this, it records 60 second stretches and stops. So I then need to hit start to resume the recording, which leaves a small gap. Is there a way to record a longer interval?
